General information for the stallion selection

The selection is open to stallions that are not already fully licensed, and that comply with a number of qualifications re DWB rules.

The 4-year-old Danish Warmblood showjumper stallion Vong's Brunello DWB TF had passed his 35-day performance test in the autumn 2018 and was in March 2019 awarded as champion in heat 2 among the showjumpers. He received the Elvin Rasmussen Challenge Cup and a breeder's medal in silver.The 4-year-old Danish Warmblood showjumper stallion Vong's Brunello DWB TF had passed his 35-day performance test in the autumn 2018 and was in March 2019 awarded as champion in heat 2 among the showjumpers. He received the Elvin Rasmussen Challenge Cup and a breeder's medal in silver.In heat 2 there are two challenge cups to be given each year, referring to two of the important founders behind Danish Warmblood breeding, Aage Ravn and Elvin Rasmussen.

The trophies are called:

Aage Ravn's Challenge Cup is given to the best 4- or 5-year-old dressage stallion who by birth is registered in Danish Warmblood.

Elvin Rasmussen's Challenge Cup is awarded to the best 4- or 5-year-old jumping stallion, who by birth is registered in Danish Warmblood.

Got It was the best DWB stallion among the 4-year-olds in 2019 and got the Aage Rasmussen Challenge Cup and a breeder's medal in silver.Got It was the best DWB stallion among the 4-year-olds in 2019 and got the Aage Rasmussen Challenge Cup and a breeder's medal in silver.

Danish Warmblood stallions that are fully licensed after passed performance test are also rewarded a breeder's medal in either gold, silver, or bronze. Stallions registered in other soiceties from birth can be licensed but do not receive a breeder's medal.

What do the stallions go through in the selection

Heat 1 (3 years and older stallions)

  • Training in free jumping (stallions of showjumping bloodlines) on Wednesday evening

  • Hard surface in-hand (all stallions)

  • Lungeing reins (all stallions)

  • Free jumping (showjumpers) or free in arena (dressage stallions)

  • 4 years and older horses are shown ridden (showjumpers are shown at 4-5 obstacle)

  • Selection

  • Characteristics of premium stallions


Heat 2 (4-year-old stallions that passed the Danish 35-day performance test, or foreign performance tests amomplying with DWB rules)

  • Hard surface in-hand

  • Showjumpers ridden on small jumping course, dressage stallions ridden in all three gaits

  • Selection

  • Characteristics of the stallions in connection with the presentation with rider. Designation of the heat's best dressage and jumping stallion. Identification of best dressage and jumping stallion who by birth is registered in the Danish Warmblood (Aage Ravn and Elvin Rasmussen trophies)


Heat 3 (5 years and older stallions that have passed their 35-day performance test, foreign performance tests complying with our rules and/or qualifying competition results)

  • Hard surface in-hand

  • Showjumpers ridden on small jumping course, dressage stallions ridden in all three gaits

  • Selection (no specification or designation of champion stallions)

  • Stallions will be selected Thursday afternoon and by then have permission to enter presentation classes


Heat 4 (Thoroughbred and Arabian stallions of all ages)

  • Hard surface in-hand

  • May participate in free jumping, this is optional

  • All 3-year-old stallions are shown loose, 4 years and older stallions may choose to be shown ridden

  • Selection (no specification or designation of champion stallions)

  • Stallions will be selected by Thursday and by then have permission to enter presentation classes.
